Shepherd's Purse Seeds (Capsella bursa-pastoris) 냉이 1,000 seeds Family:  Mustard  (Brassicaceae) Hardy to Zones 6 to 10, otherwise grown as a spring-sown annual, 60 days to harvest. Annual or overwintering annual native to Europe and Asia.  All zones.  Traditional usage (TWM): Hemostatic agent used to stem excess menstrual bleeding or post-partum hemorrhage.   The plants grow well in sun to part shade in moist, heavily manured soil, and they grow best during the cool months.  Sow in summer or fall.  Thin to 6 inches apart.  Flowers up to 18 inches tall. In coordination with this plant’s preferred identity as an overwintering annual, we suggest sowing these seeds in the fall and harvesting the herb in the late spring, which provides a significantly higher yield.  Sow seed on surface and press in firmly.  Keep cool (e.g. garden soil in fall, unheated greenhouse in early spring) and evenly moist until germination, which is rapid.  Thinning is not usually necessary, as the plants are cosmopolitan and appreciate crowding.
